Gerald Double [Artist Info] (Illinois, USA.)
Gerald Double Montage

Personal Profile

My name is Gerald Double, I am a 39 year old Capricorn, I live in Illinois with my wife and 2 dogs, but I was born in Los Angeles and grew up there. When I started doing computer art it was on ACAD 2.0 I found that by using the array function you could do some neat fractals, kind of like the old spiralgraph toy I had when I was a kid. Then I discovered 3D StudioMax and well the rest is history, but I guess so am I when it comes to computer art. Anyway I was just a hobby user who loved to draw using both conventional tools and the computer. I started posting to the web about 4 years ago and realized I loved looking at other artist's works as a way to get ideas and inspirations. Now, I am experienced in Poser, Cinema 4D, 3D StudioMax,Carerra, Amorphium, Z Brush, Bryce, Vue D'Esprit,Terragen, Photoshop and Corel Draw & Paint. I have been working as a freelance artist for the last 3 years. I have been voted as artist of the month on several web sites and have won several art contests. My web page can be seen at http://home.mchsi.com/~gdouble2/. I thought that breaking into the graphic art field was going to be very hard, but after 4 years I don't know that I would say it was hard, it just seems as though it takes alot of time. I mean there are a tons of artist better than me out there, but its really not what I think, but what the people who look at what we do as artists think. I mean one person might say a particular piece is crap and the next person may think it is a master piece and is willing to pay you for it. It all depends on what the viewer wants and what they are willing to pay for it. Personally, I do it as a way to unwind and relax and really don't care if someone wants to buy my work or not, but if they do want to pay me to do what I love, great!. My advice to anyone trying to break into this field is to be very diverse, do images of all kinds of things, not just cars or weapons. This shows you are creative and can draw and model just about anything. Also be persistent and upload your images to the net on a regular basis. Sites like Renderosity.com are wonderful. In my honest opinion it is the premiere place for graphic artists to show off their work and is also the best place to get tips, ideas and feedback on your own work. This gives you exposure and is also satisfying in that people will compliment you on your work and also give you tips and ideas to help you improve. Just remember, you never know who is looking at your work and keep in mind we all have to start at the beginning. That's how we learn. I love doing computer art and will continue to do it as long as I can work a mouse and tablet.

Comments

Gerald was our assassin. There are GDouble items scattered throughout the game - objects, illustrations, Easter eggs, you name it. Notice that he can be found in every section of art needs. He would also come up on his own with interesting concepts that were incorporated into the game, such as the Spydra.
